Five things you can do to help end exploitation

myLifeMyChoice

We are grateful for and inspired by the momentum that is building to end the commercial sexual exploitation of children in Massachusetts.

Thank you to everyone who came out to learn more about human trafficking on May 28th at our special screening of “TRICKED.” We were thrilled to have filmmaker Jane Wells join us for a question and answer session following the screening. To learn more about “TRICKED” or her other films go to 3generations.org.

The sold out event was a huge success—raising awareness of the commercial sexual exploitation of girls throughout the United States and shining the light on survivors and other advocates working toward change.

Here are 5 things you can do now to help

1. Call or email your Senators in support of H.R. 4058 – Preventing Sex Trafficking and Improving Opportunities for Youth in Foster Care Act. The bill was passed in the House on May 20th and has been received by the Senate. This legislation is critical to improving the safety net for the nation’s most vulnerable youth. In MA: Sen. Edward Markey/202-224-2742 and Sen. Elizabeth Warren/202-224-4543. Outside of MA and for more on H.R. 4058: www.opencongress.org

2. Talk with your children, coworkers, community leaders, and neighbors about commercial sexual exploitation as a form of child abuse. Make sure that the people in your life know that you believe that no one should ever be bought or sold. Consider hosting a film screening of “TRICKED” in your home or organization.

3. Connect with My Life My Choice on social media to learn about local and national efforts to combat trafficking, upcoming events, and to connect with important resources. Help us build awareness and promote action by sharing with friends and family and inviting them to like us. facebook/mylifemychoice or Twitter@mlmcgirls

4. Make a donation to support our work with high risk and exploited youth. We also welcome contributions of your professional or personal skills and talents through volunteering. Email mlmcinfo@jri.org to get involved.

5. Continue learning about the commercial sexual exploitation of children by attending My Life My Choice events and trainings. Join us this fall for a forum on media and its role in the movement to end human trafficking. Go to www.fightingexploitation.org or facebook.com/mylifemychoice for updates.
