The Massachusetts State House is currently considering legislation that, if passed, would add Massachusetts to the growing list of states, cities, and campuses across the country that are committing to conflict-free minerals policies. We need your help to make Massachusetts conflict-free.
Call Speaker DeLeo and ask him to bring “H.2898: An Act Relative to Congo Conflict Minerals” to a vote.
H. 2898 was originally filed by former Representative Marty Walsh, and will encourage Massachusetts to contract with companies that are compliant with federal law provisions on conflict minerals, thus sending a powerful message to companies that use conflict minerals in their products, including electronics and jewelry retailers.
With the surrender of the M23 militia last year and growing regional and international support for a comprehensive peace process, it is more important than ever to curtail the trade of conflict minerals fueling the ongoing armed conflict and rampant sexual violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
If you are on your phone, call (617) 463-9226 to be connected directly to Speaker DeLeo’s office now.
With your help, Massachusetts has the opportunity to become the third state in the U.S. to pass a conflict-free minerals resolution and a leader in promoting sustainable peace in Congo.
